Through it, I raise the issue of ecology and animal husbandry, the need for an alternative and a conscious choice. The fox becomes a symbol of the new coexistence between man and nature: intelligent, responsible and gentle.

The Fox as Alchemy of Images, Survival and Inner Wisdom

The fox in MetaSelf is more than an animal symbol, it is a messenger between worlds. It moves in the twilight between the visible and the invisible, between flesh and shadow, between what is shown and what is hidden. It is the one who does not walk on straight paths because it exists. It walks on paths in order to reshape them.
In the mythological layers of the human imagination, the fox is never just an animal, it is always something else. Sometimes a woman, sometimes a spirit, sometimes a trickster, sometimes a savior. In every culture, it wears a different skin, but it always remains one: a being who knows everything about transformation.

Native American Legends

In the cultures of North American Indians, the Fox is a symbol of cunning, adaptability and hidden wisdom. In some tribes, it is a trickster, a creature that, with tricks and the ability to overturn the rules, teaches people lessons through unforeseen situations. In other myths, the Fox is a keeper of secret and sacred knowledge and a mediator between man and the spirit world.

Northern Peoples (Scandinavia, Siberia)

In the legends of the Northern Peoples, the Fox is often a guide in the forest and a protector from evil forces.
According to an old Scandinavian myth, the red tail ignited the Northern Lights while running through the snow.
It is a symbol of the survival instinct, flexibility and the ability to go through difficulties with ease and finesse.

The Fox in MetaSelf

In the MetaSelf concept, the Fox is an Archetype of transformation through intuition, adaptation and movement between the visible and the invisible. It embodies the ability of a person to change their images, to move between social roles, to be invisible or blindingly visible, according to the need of the moment.

A family portrait of a family of free foxes by Antonia Tochka in pencil on white paper. I decided that I would draw them free, and also print them on natural cotton, stuff them with wadding and create coats and clothes from them. I dreamed of stopping this human bloodthirstiness by drawing the life of these creatures.

The fox is a symbol of that flexible self that survives and reinvents itself. It is that part of us that knows when to hide, when to show itself and when to change its path. For MetaSelf, it is the guardian of the inner forest – of shadows, desires and unadulterated impulses.

It is the face of survival through finesse and wisdom.
It teaches that true power is not always in the demonstration, but in the ability to sense the moment, to choose your battles and transform yourself without losing yourself.

The coats from the METASELF series are double-faced. They weigh less than a coat made from 70 dead foxes, but more than ordinary fur coats on the market, because they are made of 100% cotton, linen and synthetic wadding. That is why I have provided straps that allow the coat to be worn as a backpack on the back in warmer weather or when passing through airports.
